We’ll fight like our Irish sisters – until the state stops chasing us and starts protecting us. A conversation on abortion with Katarzyna Wężyk, the author of the book “Aborcja jest” after the film THE 8TH, dir. Aideen Kane, Lucy Kennedy, Maeve O'Boyle

In Polish

Abortion has been here and is here to stay. Are the ideologies which were used to justify the abortion ban centuries ago different than the ones used by people who want to deprive women of their right to make choices concerning their own lives and bodies? What does the nearly complete ban on abortion lead to? Where is Poland on this dangerous path and how do we counteract it? We will not only discuss extremism and the mechanisms of oppression but also the fortitude, sisterhood and power of solidarity, which changes reality. This is what happened in Ireland, whose transformation from a conservative country dominated by the catholic church into a more liberal, secular state could be a role model for Poland. On 25th May 2018, the Irish took a vote and decided to remove the ban on abortion from their constitution.
