Debate: Who should have more power, corporations or governments?

Following the screening of THE NEW CORPORATION: THE UNFORTUNATELY NECESSARY SEQUEL, dir. Jennifer Abott, Joel Bakan

In Polish

Partner: Political Critique magazine

The government apparatus is the problem, the private sector is the solution—this is the approach that has been prevalent since the 1970s. Since then, corporate profits have been growing. Corporations are making the rules of the world we live in, successively taking over the tasks of the public sector. Choosing the social goals worth investing in, they turn them into lucrative businesses. Only one crack mars this lovely picture: the fact that the innovations making money for the corporations are financed from taxes, which corporations do not want to pay. After the screening we’re going to discuss the government’s role in the modern economy and the risks inherent in a world ruled by international corporations.
