“Comic books in Poland – a niche or an unknown land in literature?". Meeting after the film “Comic Book Shop”

Is the comic book only a niche category in Poland, reserved for just a few die-hard fans? After the screening of “Comic books in Poland – a niche or an unknown land in literature?” Meeting after the film “Comic Book Shop”, we wil have a meeting with the Comic Book Discussion Club. Set up three years ago in Wrocław by pure amateurs, this institution holds monthly gatherings devoted to discussions on this graphic literature.

Our guests will shed some light on the club’s functioning, and on how to be a fan of comic books in places which are deprived of dedicated book stores and libraries.   

Guests:

Krzysztof Jarząb – social media specialist, former journalist based in Wrocław, raised on cult Polish comic books written by Janusz Christa, Papcio Chmiel and Grzegorz Rosiński. Worshipper of the works of Guy Delisle, Daniel Clowes, and Adrian Tomine, as well as superhero comic books.

Paweł Rzodkiewicz – storywriter of the following comic books : “Visit” (drawings by Paweł Garwol), “It will be ok” (drawings by Tomasz Woroniak). Lives in Wrocław, currently working on “twohanded”, a comic book with drawings by Jakub Kwiatkowski. Apart from creating stories, he is an ardent reader of various comic book genres : horrors, drama, and comedy.

Aśka Grzelczyk – culture animator, comic book promoter, founder of the Comic Book Discussion Club “Wykolejeni” (Derailed). Fan of the works of Chris Ware, Nicolas de Crecy, Oliveir Schrauwen and Maciej Sienczyk.
