Cine Ukraine: „Tales of War and Peace”. Meeting after the screening of “This Rain Will Never Stop”

In Polish

Director Alina Gorlova draws parallels between the story of Donbas and Syria. She uses the atypical story of the main character to portray the archetype story of peace and conflict. After the screening, we will witness a dialogue between two people: an Ukrainian woman and a Syrian citizen, both living in Wrocław. They will discuss the cultural differences in depicting conflict, and describe the typical stories of war refugees in their respective countries. We will try to point the challenges, as well as advantages, of war trauma and emigration.

The screening will be followed by a dialogue between a Syrian man and a Ukrainian woman, discussing cultural differences in the imagery of war, gender and generational differences in surviving in wartime, and the universality of the war experience. Our guests will discuss the fates of their compatriots displaced by war as well as their own lessons in emigration and seeking refuge. We will try to examine the challenges and potential benefits of this blending of war trauma and resettlement.
