A conversation between literature professor Ryszard Koziołek and Ewa Niewiadomska after the screening of Herbert. Barbarian in the Garden
Zbigniew Herbert is a world-renowned poet, and a figure with a cult following in Poland. His poetry has been translated into 40 languages, and amassed numerous awards in recognition of its timeless and universal character. Rafael Lewandowski uses the film to tell the story of an outstanding artist, a biography which includes some dark chapters. The director discovers that the crystalline beauty of Herbert's poetry somewhat conceals his little-known private life, the life of a poet and humanist, a man of great refinement and sense of humour, who nevertheless struggled with self-doubt, anger, physical pain and mental illness.
Ewa Niewiadomska will interview Ryszard Koziołek, Ph.D, a literary scholar, the vice-rector of the University of Silesia, about the life and works of Zbigniew Herbert.
