Festival Opening Gala
Opening film: I AM GRETA, dir. Nathan Grossman
This year’s opening film is I am Greta, an in-depth portrait of Greta Thunberg. The director accompanied from the first day of the protest when she sat alone on the sidewalk in front of the Swedish Parliament. Later, Grossman followed her across the ocean to the UN summit in New York. Greta as the protagonist is more than just a symbol of young activists—she’s also a girl who’s particularly shaken by the climate catastrophe and lives with Asperger syndrome. The motto of this year’s festival, “The world is awakening”, was sourced from one of Greta’s speeches.
