The Patient Watcher. Vitaly Mansky’s masterclass

Following the screening of "Gorbachev. Heaven", dir. Witalij Manski

In Russian with Polish interpreter

Careful observation, which allows one to winkle the true shape of a situation from underneath the surface of reality, is the method utilized by Vitaly Mansky to show us how politics manipulates our vision of the world. His "Pipeline" starts at the frozen source of the Trans-Siberian Pipeline and follows it to Western European countries buying gas from Russia while the camera observes the people living along the route of the pipeline, showing that wealth doesn’t necessarily go hand in hand with happiness. Beginning with a close focus on a family, his "Under the Sun" (a massive winner at the 2016 Millennium Docs Against Gravity) presents the absurdities of life in North Korea. His behind-the-scenes examination of Vladimir Putin’s rise to power, "Putin’s Witnesses", depicts similar absurdities with an added measure of horror. Vitaly Mansky will present his new film - "Gorbachev. Heaven" - and hold a masterclass at this year’s festival.
