The Roots of a System of Oppression: Meeting with the creators of SONGS OF REPRESSION
Meeting after the sreening of SONGS OF REPRESSION, dir. Estephan Wagner, Marianne Hougen-Moraga
English with a Polish interpreter
Both Estephan Wagner and Marianne Hougen-Moraga have personally experienced the touch of a totalitarian regime. The famous Colonia Dignidad, a German colony in Chile, became their shared point of reference for a broader reflection on environmental influences that determine people’s fates. They gathered the testimonies of residents of Dignidad: the place, meant to be an idyllic haven, instead pushed the residents into enslavement. The two directors spark a discussion of individual and shared traumas which, if not worked through, take root in the subsequent generations.
