A Dutch artist who lives and works in Amsterdam and Kinshasa. Martens is famous for his provocations like the documentary “Episode III: Enjoy Poverty” (2008) in which he perversely suggested that the people of Congo advertise their poverty as if it was a natural resource. In 2010, Martens launched the Institute for Human Activity (IHA) which calls for a programme of gentrification on a palm oil plantation in the Congolese rain forest.
