"Omar. How Not To Be Different" protagonists.

They live in Sokolka in Podlasie. They are an ordinary Polish family from a small town – they are also an ordinary Tatar family and in their lives the down-to-earthness and deep familiarity interwine with the awareness of their own individuality and attachment to the local Tatar Islam. Tomasz – a non-professional musician working in finances is also a local imam’s son. Irena runs a haidresser’s, take some extra jobs, runs a house and looks after her husband sons and her half-brother. When Tomasz and Irena met in the 90s they were looking to get in to a relationship in the local Muslim community. That is how they imagined future for their sons whose names and appearance clearly suggest their background. These days their son Omar is becoming an adult and is looking for his own way into his life. He is now moving in with his girlfriend – he works at the local whirlpool and she studies forestry in Białystok. Tomasz and Irena’s younger son – Samir grows up in the world where the myth of multicultural Podlasie clashes with the reality of today’s Poland.
